Three Rescued From Stalled Elevator At Ritz-Carlton

Boy oh boy. How this may have been horrible for the 90 year old.

(STMW) — Three people were trapped in a Gold Coast elevator before being rescued by firefighters.

The building houses a Ritz-Carlton hotel on its lower floors, and condominiums on higher floors, though all three people in the elevator are permanent residents of the hotel, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.

A man and woman in their 60s were out of the elevator by about 9 p.m.; the third person, a woman in her 90s, was out by about 9:30 p.m.

The elevator is in what is called a “blind shaft,” with no openings between the first floor of the building and its first stop, in the 33rd floor. The elevator cab had stopped about 10 floors up, fire officials said.

The three had been trapped in the elevator since about 7 p.m., according to Langford.

A manager at the hotel could not be reached immediately for comment Friday…
